Nanaimo Daily News questions Mark MacDonald

November 14, 2008

Local businessman and city council candidate Mark MacDonald, past president of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, took time to answer questions from the Nanaimo Daily News editorial board, which was published in the November 1 newspaper.

Why are you seeking election/re-election?

Nanaimo has been very good to me. We’ve raised our family here, and our business has prospered, and I would like to have the opportunity to give back to the city. The city needs to be more accountable to its citizens, and I would look forward to finding why certain decisions have been made, coming up with constructive solutions, and hopefully making a difference. Nanaimo needs Economic Leadership, and I believe I can provide this. As publisher of four business newspapers, I am speaking to business owners and leaders on a daily basis here and throughout B.C., and have my finger on the pulse of the economy. I believe the insight I glean from others would be an asset here. My focus would be on lowering taxes, helping find solutions to the homeless crisis, encourage economic development through the formation of an Economic Development Commission, and a Private Sector led and operated Entertainment and Sports Multiplex – not one initiated and controlled by the city and funded like the conference centre.
